Hello! My name is Carla. I’m an author, freelance writer, editor, and educator who lives and works in southwestern Pennsylvania.
I have an extensive background in professional writing spanning two decades, as well as eight years of experience in the classroom. I hold a terminal degree in professional writing from Seton Hill University and completed my undergraduate studies in English, Creative Writing, and Journalism at California University of Pennsylvania.
Since graduating from Seton Hill, I’ve worked simultaneously in the fields of academia and journalism, guiding both students and freelance writers to produce their best work.
In addition to writing, editing, and teaching, I’m a recognized expert on Jack the Ripper and have traveled the country speaking (and writing) about the crimes, their implications, and the investigation(s).
I lead my life with the notion that anything worth doing is worth doing well.
Some of my accomplishments have included:
Teaching composition and communications at the university/college level
Editing and overseeing the general operation of two community newsmagazines: Pennsylvania Bridges (2014-2019) and California Focus (2005-2009). You can view back issues of Pennsylvania Bridges on Issuu
Founding and continuously operating a 501(c)3 non-profit arts organization — Jozart Center for the Arts — that aimed to preserve and promote the arts in the Mon Valley region
Having my debut novel, The Heart Absent, published in 2013 by New Libri Press
A comprehensive list of my professional and personal achievements can be found on my Curriculum Vitae (C.V.)
I’m available for writing, editing, and design projects. Please see my Professional Services page for information about services offered.
